Let \(f\) be a continuous increasing concave function on \([0,\infty)\) and let \(X,Y\) be two positive operators acting on a Hilbert space \((H, \langle\cdot,\cdot\rangle)\). The problem examined here is whether, if \(\langle f(A)\xi,\xi\rangle \leq f(\langle B\xi,\xi\rangle)\) and \(\langle f(B)\xi,\xi\rangle \leq f(\langle A\xi,\xi\rangle)\) for all unit vectors \(\xi\in H\), can we then conclude that \(A=B\)? The author has already solved this problem for matrices in Part~I [J. Math. Soc. Japan 62, No. 3, 949--961 (2010; Zbl 1216.47025)]. The infinite-dimensional case remains unsolved. In the paper under review, the author considers \(f(t)=\sqrt{t}\) and solves the problem when \(A, B\) are two positive invertible operators.
