In this article the author focuses on the correlation between the monodromy data and the so-called truncated solutions (solutions which have no poles at infinity near some critical rays) of the first (\(P_I\)) and second (\(P_{II}\)) Painlevé equations. In particular, he provides necessary and sufficient conditions for a solution of \(P_I\) and \(P_{II}\) to be truncated in terms of the corresponding monodromy data (in fact in terms of the singularities of the monodromy data). The author also gives some examples for the pole distributions of known truncated solutions using numerical experiments. In addition, he makes a suggestion (similar to the Dubrovin's conjecture for a 3-truncated solution of \(P_I\) [\textit{B. Dubrovin} et al., J. Nonlinear Sci. 19, No. 1, 57--94 (2009; Zbl 1220.37048)]) that the Hastings-McLeod solution of \(P_{II}\) and a 3-truncated solution of \(P_{II}\) have no poles in certain critical sectors.
