Let \(S\) be a regular semigroup. An element \(t\in S\) is called an associate of \(s\in S\) if \(s=sts\). A subsemigroup \(S^*\) of \(S\) is called an associate subsemigroup if it contains a least associate \(x^*\) of each \(x\in S\) in relation to the natural partial order \(\leq\). Such a subsemigroup \(S^*\) is inverse. Semigroups \(S\) containing an associate inverse subsemigroup \(S^*\) can be regarded as unary semigroups in respect to the unary operation \(x\mapsto x^*\). The authors showed in another paper that the class of semigroups containing a fixed associate inverse subsemigroup is a variety of unary semigroups [The variety of unary semigroups with associate inverse subsemigroup. Semigroup Forum (to appear)]. The main result of the paper is ``a structure theorem for a certain class of regular semigroups with associate inverse subsemigroup in terms of Rees matrix representation. This class contains, in particular, all completely simple semigroups and all Clifford semigroups''.
