Let \(G\) be a finite group and define \(g^h:=h^{-1}gh\) for \(g,h\in G\). The nonabelian exterior square \(G\wedge G\) is defined to be the group generated by the symbols \(g\wedge h\) subject to the relations \(gg'\wedge h=((g')^g\wedge h^g)(g\wedge h)\), \(g\wedge hh'=(g\wedge h)(g^h\wedge(h')^h)\) and \(g\wedge g=1\) for all \(g,g',h,h'\in G\). The exterior centre \(Z^\wedge(G)\) consists of all \(g\in G\) such that \(g\wedge h=1\) for all \(h\in G\), and the exterior degree \(d^\wedge(G):=|\{(g,h)\mid g\wedge h=1\}|/|G|^2\) [see \textit{P. Niroomand} and \textit{R. Rezaei}, Commun. Algebra 39, No. 1, 335-343 (2011; Zbl 1227.20044)]. The authors compute upper and lower bounds for \(d^\wedge(G)\) when \(G\) is a wreath product of two cyclic \(p\)-groups. The results are too complicated to present here but perhaps of incidental interest is the following. Suppose that \(G:=C_{p^m}\wr C_{p^n}\) where \(p\) is an odd prime. Then the order of the Schur multiplier \(M(G)\) is equal to \(p^s\) where \(s=\lfloor\tfrac{1}{2}n(p^m-t)\rfloor\) with \(-3\leq t\leq 1\); there is a slightly different result when \(p=2\).
