The main idea of this paper as well as of some others of the first author is to give conditions for convergence/divergence of multidimensional Fourier series the under assumption of boundedness of partial variations only in the past and partial generalized variations in the present paper. The point is how rich such classes are. Definitely not very much in the usual case, since it is just a very specific partial case of the class of functions with bounded Tonelli variation. It could not happen if the following basic sources, an absolute must while working with multidimensional variations, were used: \textit{J. A. Clarkson} and \textit{C. R. Adams} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 35, 824-854 (1933; Zbl 0008.00602)]; \textit{C. R. Adams} and \textit{J. A. Clarkson} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 36, 711-730 (1934); correction ibid. 46, 468 (1939; Zbl 0010.19902)]. Reviewer's remark: The authors should check whether this is the case or not for generalized classes; without such a comparison the value of the paper under review is a little vague.
