Rings of matrices generated by a companion matrix. (Q2448951)

Let \(A\) be a commutative ring with identity and \(h(x)\) be a monic polynomial of degree \(k\) over \(A\). The author investigates properties of the regular representation of the quotient ring of \(A[x]\) by the principal ideal generated by \(h(x)\). A matrix in this ring which is its regular representation is completely determined by its first row, hence it is generated in the ring of all matrices of type \(k\times k\) over \(A\) by the companion matrix of the polynomial \(h(x)\).
