The author applies the renormalized volume of hyperbolic \(3\)-manifolds, which he and \textit{K. Krasnov} have investigated in [Commun. Math. Phys. 279, No. 3, 637--668 (2008; Zbl 1155.53036)] and other papers, to the quasifuchsian hyperbolic 3-manifolds homeomorphic to \(S\times {\mathbb R}\), where \(S\) is an orientable closed surface of genus \(g\geq 2\). The first main theorem of this paper compares the volume \(V_C(M)\) of the convex core \(C(M)\) and the renormalized volume \(V_R(M)\) of a quasifuchsian hyperbolic 3-manifold \(M\). It establishes the inequality \(V_R(M)\leq V_C(M)-L\leq V_R(M)+C_g\), where \(L>0\) is a quantity determined by the bending lamination of the boundary of \(C(M)\) and \(C_g\) is a positive constant depending only on \(g\). The second main theorem proves that \(V_R(M)\leq 3\sqrt{\pi(g-1)}d_{WP}(c_-,c_+)\), where \(c_-\) and \(c_+\) are the conformal structures at infinity of \(M\) and \(d_{WP}\) is the Weil-Petersson metric. This inequality improves \textit{J. Brock}'s [J. Am. Math. Soc. 16, No. 3, 495--535 (2003; Zbl 1059.30036)] comparison between \(V_R(M)\) and \(d_{WP}(c_-,c_+)\) . The third main theorem states that, for all immersed holomorphic disks with curvature \(\geq -k^2\) in the Teichmüller space \({\mathcal T}_S\) equipped with the Weil-Petersson metric, their radii are bounded above by a value \(f(k)\) such that \(f(k)/k\to 3\sqrt{\pi(g-1)}\) as \(k\to+0\).
