The article provides a classification of involutions on an Enriques surface \(Y\), i.e. a compact complex surface whose irregularity and geometric genus vanish and such that its bicanonical divisor is trivial. Since every such a surface is the quotient of a \(K3\) surface \(X\) by a fixed point free involution, then the problem of classifying involutions on \(Y\) is addressed with the help of the study of involutions on \(K3\). The authors use lattice theory, as introduced by Nikulin, in order to prove the following result: involutions on an Enriques surface are classified into 18 types. Geometric examples for all the 18 cases are provided in the article; some of them were already known in literature.
