Let \(V \subset \mathbb P^{M+k}\) be a generic Fano complete intersection of type \((d_1, \dots, d_k)\) and index one. In the paper under review it is proved that, if \(M \geq \max\{7, k+3\}\) and at least one of the \(d_i\) is \(\geq 4\) such a variety is birationally superrigid. The definition of birational superrigidity used in the paper is quite technical, and involves the thresold and virtual threshold of canonical adjunction; however this implies that a birational superrigid variety has only one structure of Mori fiber space, it is non rational and the groups of birational and biregular self-maps of the variety coincide. Together with a previous paper of the author [J. Reine Angew. Math. 541, 55--79 (2001; Zbl 1037.14004)], in which the same result was proved in the assumption \(M \geq 2k+1\), this result covers all Fano complete intersection of index one, except for complete intersections of quadrics and cubics, and for complete intersections of type \((2, \dots, 2, 4)\). For the first case see the author's recent paper [Izv. Math. 77, No. 4, 795--845 (2013); translation from Izv. Ross. Akad. Nauk, Ser. Mat. 77, No. 4, 161--214 (2013; Zbl 1405.14039)].
