This is the third edition of the book of \textit{A. G. Hunt} (for the previous editions see [Zbl 1095.76002; Zbl 1161.76300)]. The new edition contains 13 chapters of which 5 are new treating the following important elements related to flows in porous media: fractal models, specific examples for critical path analysis, hydraulic and electrical conductivity, properties based on tortuosity, problems relevant for transport and transport applications. These new chapters, based mainly on critical path analysis, improve the results obtained in the previous editions. The main aim is the study of connectivity and correlations as the main explanation of the properties of flows in porous media. The book contains also the original results of the authors, and reflects well the progress in the field obtained in the past few decades. This book could be very useful to physicists, hydrologists and students who wish to understand the complexity of the flows in porous media. Specific problems and significant reference lists are given at the end of each chapter.
