Within a simple model, which represents a surrogate for the relativistic interactions between nucleons and mesons, the authors discuss mathematical issues related to the ultraviolet cut-off of meson momenta from the model's Hamiltonian above a threshold energy \(\Lambda\). The dynamics is generated by a Hamiltonian containing the free-energy of a spinless nucleon of mass \(m\), \(\sqrt{m^2+p^2}\), the real scalar free field Hamiltonian of neutral mesons of mass \(\mu\), \(\int dk\sqrt{k^2+\mu^2}a^*(k)a(k)\), and an interaction between the spinless nucleon and the scalar massive bosons which depends parametrically on \(\Lambda\). Other parameters of the model are the coupling constant \(g\) and the maximum total momentum (\(P=p+\int dk~ka^*(k)a(k)\)). The construction of the ground state is carried out by assuming \(g\) to be independent of \(\Lambda\) and the interaction term in the in Hamiltonian is sliced into smaller pieces corresponding to momentum ranges \([\Lambda\gamma^{n-1},\Lambda\gamma^n]\), where \(\gamma\) is a subunitary fineness parameter. Under these circumstances an iterative analytic perturbation theory can maintain control over the convergence radius of the von Neumann expansion uniformly in \(\Lambda\). Upper and lower bounds on the ground state energies are derived in section 3, whereas in section 4 a proof is given for the inequality satisfied by the effective velocity \(\partial E_{P,n}/\partial P_i\), where \(E_{P,n}\) is the non-degenerate isolated eigenvalue corresponding to the ground state \(\Psi_{P,n}\). The authors remark that in the free case (\(g=0\)) the absolute value of the ground state energy gradient satisfies the equality \(|\partial E_{P,n}/\partial P_i|=|P_i|/\sqrt{P^2+m^2}\) and if the interaction is turned on, this quantity decreases to an order smaller or equal to \(|g|^{1/2}\) in the limit \(\Lambda\longrightarrow\infty\), making thus the theory similarly to the interaction of a quantized field with a classical source. A chapter concluding the paper is absent.
