Some results are presented on the connection between the Siegel norm, the length function and irreducible character values of finite groups. In addition, algorithms to compute the length of a cyclotomic integer are provided. The set of cyclotomic integers with Siegel norm bounded by a given positive real number has been treated, too. As such, the work of \textit{F. Stan} and the third author [J. Reine Angew. Math. 637, 217-234 (2009; Zbl 1242.11078)] has been expanded. Sums of cyclotomic integers are studied in connection to characters of irreducible complex representations of finite groups. Estimation results of sums of unities are presented. Also work of \textit{J. W. S. Cassels} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 238, 112-131 (1969; Zbl 0179.35203)] is taken into consideration and generalized. The reviewer does advise possible readers to read this nice paper.
