The book provides a comprehensive introductory survey of the fundamentals of nonlinear dynamics. After introducing the basic framework of dynamical systems and the principle of linearized stability, the book covers bifurcation theory, dynamical systems with one degree of freedom, dynamical systems in phase space with dimension \(3\) and bigger, and deterministic chaos. The book then covers different routes by which dynamics transition from order to chaos via bifurcations. The book continues with robust and nonrobust dynamics, hyperbolic and nonhyperbolic dynamics, classification of attractors, characteristics of Poincaré recurrence, and the nature of fractals in dynamical systems. The remaining chapters of the book cover various aspects of the theory of oscillations, namely, chaotic self-sustained oscillations, quasiperiodic oscillators with two independent frequencies, and synchronization of periodic, two-frequency self-sustained oscillations, and chaotic oscillations. The book is very readable with example-driven development of the theory throughout. The statements of important theorems are found throughout, without proofs. Although the book lacks an index, the contents of the book are listed at the beginning and provide means for the reader to locate specific material within the book. At the end of each chapter there is a list of references that enables the reader to study the material of the chapter in greater depth.
