The aim of this work is to study the long time behavior of solutions for some coupled second order evolution equations with fading memory. The system is given by two equations, the first one involves the memory of the system, the second one is an evolution equation involving a positive self-adjoint operator and a symmetric linear operator in a Hilbert space. The authors provide enough conditions on the kernel function g to obtain uniform stability or asymptotic stability and the optimal decay rate for the coupled system. The main results improve many well-known results in the area. For illustration, many examples arising in concrete applications are provided.
