In this article, applying the weak measure of noncompactess in the space \(L^1[0,T]\) introduced by \textit{J. Appell} and \textit{E. De Pascale} [Boll. Unione Mat. Ital., VI. Ser., B 3, 497--515 (1984; Zbl 0507.46025)], the author defines the family of measures of noncompactess in the space \(L^1_{\text{loc}}(\mathbb R_+)\) with the topology \(\mathcal T^w_{\text{loc}}\) as the family of mappings \(\{\mu_T\}_{T\geq 0}\), \(\mu_T:{\mathfrak M}_{L^1_{\text{loc}}}\to \mathbb R_+\), defined by the formula \[ \mu_T(X)=\lim_{\varepsilon\to 0+}\left\{\sup_{x\in X}\left\{\sup\left\{ \int_D|x(t)|dt:\;D\subset [0,T],\;m(D)\leq\varepsilon\right\}\right\}\right\}, \] where \({\mathfrak M}_{L^1_{\text{loc}}}\) denotes the family of all nonempty and bounded subsets of \(L^1_{\text{loc}}\). As an application, the author establishes a theorem concerning the existence of \(L^1_{\text{loc}}\)-solutions to the nonlinear Volterra integral equation of the form \[ x(t)=f\left(t,\int_0^t v(t,s,x(s))\,ds\right), \quad t\in\mathbb R_+. \]
