The authors investigate the almost sure limit behaviour of a specific class of branching diffusions on \(\mathbb R^2\). The diffusion is generated by \((ay^2/2)\partial^2/\partial x^2+ (\theta/2)(\partial^2/\partial y^2- y\partial/\partial y)\), branching occurs with density \(ry^2+\rho\), and the branching law corresponds to local binary splitting. Assuming \(\theta> 8\)r, which secures that the process does not explode within finite time, the limiting shape of the area populated and the rate at which the population grows within that shape are found. The proofs involve martingale and spline techniques. An application to diffusion-reaction equations is briefly discussed.
