Let \(X\) be a nonempty subset of a group \(G\). A subgroup \(A\) of \(G\) is an `\(X\)-semipermutable' subgroup of \(G\) if \(G=AT\) for a supplement \(T\) to \(A\) such that for each subgroup \(T_1\subseteq T\) there exists an element \(x\in X\) such that \(AT_1^x=T_1^xA\). Let \(X(A)\) denote the collection of \textit{all} supplements to \(A\) in \(G\) which are \(X\)-semipermutable with \(A\). The fundamental properties associated with \(X\)-semipermutable subgroups are established. A\-mong the major results is this version of the Schur-Zassenhaus Theorem: Let \(A\) be a Hall subgroup of a group \(G\) and \(X\) the Fitting subgroup of \(G\). If \(A\) is \(X\)-semipermutable in \(G\), then \(A\) has a complement in \(G\). If in addition \(X(A)\) contains a soluble complement, the subgroups in \(X(A)\) are pairwise conjugate.
