The authors study the asymptotics of the Jacobi polynomials \(P_n^{(\alpha,\beta)}(\cos\theta)\) for large \(n\). They use a generating function of these polynomials and a uniform treatment of the Darboux method introduced by Wong and Zhao. They obtain an asymptotic expansion of \(P_n^{(\alpha,\beta)}(\cos\theta)\) in the form of the sum of two series whose terms are inverse powers of \(N=n+(\alpha+\beta+1)/2\), one series multiplied by a Bessel function \(J_{\alpha}(N\theta)\) and the other one multiplied by its derivative \(J_{\alpha}'(N\theta)\). The expansion is uniformly valid for \(\theta\in[0,\pi-\epsilon]\), \(\epsilon>0\) arbitrary.
