The discussion takes place in the context of spaces of homogeneous type \((X,d,\mu)\), in which \(d\) is a quasi-distance function, \((X,d)\) is a quasi-metric space in which the \(d\)-balls are open sets, and \(\mu\) is a Borel measure that satisfies a doubling condition, \(0<\mu(B(x,2r))\leq A\mu (B(x,r))<+\infty\), and employs an extension of a notion due to \textit{M. Christ} [Colloq. Math. 60/61, No. 2, 601--628 (1990; Zbl 0758.42009)], concerning dyadic families of subsets of the space. In earlier work, \textit{H. Aimar} [Anal. Acad. Nac. Cs. Ex., F.y Nat, Buenos Aires 54 (2002)] constructed a Haar-type basis using the Christ families of dyadic sets, and in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 312, No. 1, 105--120 (2005; Zbl 1084.42014)], the authors have compared the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function with the dyadic maximal function. In the present work, the authors provide conditions on a measure \(\nu\), defined on the Borel sets associated with a homogeneous space \((X,d,\mu)\), under which the Haar system, built upon the Christ dyadic sets, proves to be an unconditional basis for the Lebesgue spaces \(L^p(d\nu)\), and also provide a characterization of these spaces in terms of the Haar coefficients.
