Harmonic functions with respect to the Poincaré metric on the unit ball in \(n\)-dimensional space \(\mathbb R^n\) are called hyperbolic harmonic functions. In this article, the weak formulation of the class of hyperbolic harmonic functions is presented. The formulation is then used for studying hyperbolic harmonic function spaces. For example, the following inequality is shown for hyperbolic harmonic functions \(u\) on the unit ball \(\mathbb B\): \[ C^{-1} \| u\| \leq \| u\| _{\text{BMO}} \leq C\| u\| , \] where \(C\) is a constant depending only on the dimension \(n\), \[ \| u\| = \sup_{x\in\mathbb B} (1-| x| )| \nabla u(x)| , \] and \(\| u\| _{\text{BMO}}\) is the norm in the space of functions of bounded mean oscillation. Finally, the hyperbolic harmonic counterpart \(F_h(p,q,s)\) of the family of function spaces \(F(p,q,s)\) that was introduced in the unit disk in [\textit{R. Zhao}, On a general family of function spaces. Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn. Math. Diss. 105 (1996; Zbl 0851.30017)] is studied. Notably, spaces \(F(p,q,s)\) coincide with many classical function spaces, including \(\alpha\)-Bloch spaces, \(H^2\), weighted Dirichlet spaces, weighted Bergman spaces, Besov spaces and \(Q_p\)-spaces with suitable choices of \(p,q\) and \(s\). The authors establish a general framework for the hyperbolic harmonic counterpart of these spaces in the unit ball \(\mathbb B\). In particular, a characterization of spaces \(F_h(p,q,s)\) by using generalized Carleson measures is given.
