The construction of a lattice on a single triangle in connection with polynomial interpolation has been discussed, e.g., by \textit{S. L. Lee} and \textit{G. M. Phillips} [Constructive Approximation 7, No.~3, 283--297 (1991; Zbl 0733.41011)] and on pages 195--214 of the book by \textit{G. M. Phillips} [Interpolation and approximation by polynomials. CMS Books in Mathematics/Ouvrages de Mathématiques de la SMC. 14. (New York), NY: Springer (2003; Zbl 1023.41002)]. In this paper, a similar lattice is constructed in terms of barycentric coordinates. Three centers are chosen outside the triangle, each on exactly one extended edge of the triangle. From these centers, three pencils of rays are carefully selected, so that their intersections in the triangle form the lattice of the triangle. The barycentric coordinates are constructed for the lattice points associated with one of the vertices of the triangle and the group action of \(S_3\) is used to get the other ones. Moreover, this construction is naturally extended to obtain a regular triangular subdivision of a regular triangulation. If there are \(V\) vertices in the triangulation, then this subdivision has \(V\) degrees of freedom.
