The paper extends the results of \textit{E. Pap} [Novi Sad J. Math 31, No. 2, 9--13 (2001; Zbl 1003.28012)] and \textit{C. Wu} and \textit{B. Sun} [Appl. Math. Lett. 20 (7), 770--772 (2007; Zbl 1131.28002)] who showed that the strongest extension \(\mu^*\) of a monotone null-additive (resp. weakly null-additive) set function \(\mu\), defined on a ring \({\mathcal R}\), to the algebra \({\mathcal A}({\mathcal R})\) generated by \({\mathcal R}\) is also null-additive (the weakly null-additive). The author shows these results also for the weakest monotone extension \(\mu_*\). Moreover, any monotone extension \(\overline \mu\) of \(\mu\) admitting \(\overline \mu(A)=0\) for some \(A\notin{\mathcal R}\) is necessarily equal to \(\mu_*\) whenever \(\overline\mu\) is null-additive. As a direct consequence, the characterization of a monotone null-additive extensions \(\overline\mu\) of \(\mu\) was obtained. Several illustrative examples are included.
