The authors prove two results about mod \(p\) properties of Siegel modular forms. The first result shows the existence of a Siegel modular form of weight \(p-1\) which is congruent to 1 mod \(p\). They give a self-contained proof of this theorem, using theta series. Then they define a theta operator, such that in the elliptic modular case it coincides with the classical theta operator and they describe its properties. Applying their first result to the formula of \textit{W. Eholzer} and \textit{T. Ibukiyama} [Int. J. Math. 9, 443--463 (1998; Zbl 0919.11037)], they show that the algebra of Siegel modular forms mod \(p\) is stable under the generalized theta operator. Moreover they show that the image under the theta operator of a Siegel modular form becomes a Serre's \(p\)-adic modular form.
