On the justification of the Galerkin method for hyperbolic equations (Q2459779)

An abstract second order weakly nonlinear differential equation in a separable Hilbert space is considered with a time dependent bounded self-adjoint positive definite operator. The author extends a technique developed in an earlier paper for operators independent of the time to the present case. The discretization is generated by the usual Galerkin approach combined with ortho-projection of the weak nonlinearity. Under the made stability assumptions it is shown that the method converges in optimal order according to the properties of the chosen projectors.
