In a convex bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) the authors consider the equation \(-\sum^2_{i=1}\frac{\partial}{\partial x_i}(a_{ii}(x)\frac {\partial u(x)}{\partial x_i})+a(x)u(x)=f(x)\) with the boundary condition \(u(x)=\varphi(x)\). The problem is called Dirichlet problem with noncoordinated degeneration of the data if the coefficients of the equation and right-hand sides of the equation and the boundary condition satisfy some assumptions, in particular they belong to some rather special weighted Sobolev spaces. An \(R_\nu\)-generalized solution to the above problem is next defined and its existence, uniqueness and a coercivity inequality are proved as well.
