The paper contains a comprehensive survey of recent results on thin Lie algebras, i.e. graded Lie algebras over positive integers satisfying certain narrow conditions: \(\dim L_1=2\), \(L_{i+1}=[u, L_1]\) for every \(0\neq u\in L_i\), for all \(i\geq 1.\) It follows that every homogeneous component has dimension 1 or 2. A component \(L_i\) of dimension 2 is called a diamond. It is known that the second diamond can only occur in degrees 3, 5, \(q\) and \(2q-1\) where \(q\) is a power of characteristic of the ground field. A thin Lie algebra with the second diamond in degree \(q\) is called Nottingham Lie algebra. The thing is that the graded Lie algebra associated with the lower central series of the Nottingham group admits this property. In the paper the Nottingham Lie algebras with the third diamond of degree \(2q-1\) and of finite type not belonging to the prime field are constructed as loop algebras of Albert-Zassenhaus algebras. Using the deformation technique the authors recover other thin Lie algebras previously produced as loop algebras of certain graded Hamiltonian Lie algebras.
