Let \(G\in k[[x,y]]\) be a formal group law over a field \(k\) and \(f\in k[[x]]\) be an endomorphism of \(G\). If \(k\) is of characteristic \(0\) then \(f\) determines the logarithm of \(G\) and so \(G\) itself. The paper under review investigates the analogous situation in positive characteristic and establishes a nearly analogous result. The authors show that a series commuting with a nontorsion automorphism of \(G\) must itself be an automorphism and that if \(k\) is large enough that all endomorphisms of \(G\) are defined over \(k\) then \(\text{Aut}_k(G)\) is its own normalizer in \(k[[x]]^*\). A consequence of this is that if \(\text{Aut}_k(G)=\text{Aut}_k(F)\) then \(G=F\) and that \(G\) is determined by any one of its nontorsion automorphisms.
