The authors study the existence and stability of multi-dimensional transonic shocks to the steady flow through an infinite asymptotically cylindrical nozzle. The question of interest is the pattern of the transonic shock wave for given supersonic entrance and subsonic exit. The stability of the shock waves with respect to perturbations of the entrance is also studied. The studied equation is the nonlinear second-order elliptic-hyperbolic potential flow equation for the velocity potential. The flow is isentropic and irrotational. The problem is reformulated into a free boundary problem for a uniform elliptic equation. The free boundary problem is solved by the linear iteration scheme. The method of artificial bounds is used to solve problems in infinite domains. The fixed point method provides the existence of the transonic flow and stability of the transonic shock wave pattern. Uniqueness is also proved.
