The paper deals with the difference equation \[ x_k = \sum_{j=k-m}^{k-1}c(x_j) - f(x_{k-m}), \tag{1} \] which models electrical wave propagation in a ring of \(m\) cells of cardiac tissue. Assuming that positive continuous functions \(c\) and \(f\) are decreasing and increasing respectively, eq. (1) has a unique equilibrium \(x^*.\) Necessary and sufficient conditions for local asymptotic stability of \(x^*\) are given.
