The space of square integrable functions on the real line interval \((0,\pi)\) is denoted by \(L^2(0,\pi)\) with norm \(\|.\|_2\). In the considerations of this paper, the author determines an inversion process for the operator \(A= A(M,g, v)\) defined by \[ A(f)(x)= M(f)(x)+ g(x) \int^\pi_0 f(t) v(t)\,dt, \] where \[ M(f)(x)= \int^x_0 M(x- t) f(t)\,dt,\quad 0< x\leq \pi. \] If \(M(0)= -i\), \(M'(0)= 0\), \((\pi- x)M''(x)\in L^2(0,\pi)\), \(M\in W^2_2(0, T)\) for all \(T\), \(0< T\leq\pi\), and if \(a_1a_2\neq 0\), where \[ a_1= 1+ ig(0) v(0)+ \int^\pi_0 v(x) Dg(x)\,dx, \quad a_2= ig(0) v(\pi), \] then the operator \(A\) is said to belong to a class \({\mathcal A}\). The characteristic function \({\mathcal I}\) of \(A\) is defined by \[ {\mathcal I}= 1-\lambda \int^\pi_0 v(x) g(x,\lambda)\,dx, \] where \[ g(x,\lambda)= (I-\lambda M)^{-1}(g)(x)= g(x)+ \int^x_0 M(x- t,\lambda) g(t)\,dt, \] and \(M(x,\lambda)\) is the kernel of the integral operator \(R_\lambda(M)= (I-\lambda M)^{-1}M\), and it is known that the characteristic numbers \(\lambda_k\), \(k= 0,\pm 1,\pm 2,\pm 3,\dots\), of \(A\) are the zeros of \({\mathcal I}\). In the main theorems of this paper , it is shown that \((^*1)\) if \(g\), \(v\) are pre-assigned, then the characteristic numbers \(\lambda_k\), \(k= 0,\pm 1,\pm 2,\pm 3,\dots\), determine \(M\) uniquely, and \((^*2)\) pre-assigned numbers \(\lambda_k\), \(k= 0,\pm1,\pm2,\pm3,\dots\), are characteristic numbers of an operator \(A= A(M,g,v)\in{\mathcal A}\) if and only if \[ p= -\int^\pi_0 g(x)v(x)\,dx, \quad \gamma\exp(i\alpha\pi)= ig(0) v(\pi), \] where \[ p= i\pi(e^{-i\alpha\pi}- 1)^{-1}+ \sum^\infty_{-\infty} \biggl( \frac{1}{\lambda_k^0}- \frac{1}{\lambda_k}\biggr) \] if \(\exp(i\alpha\pi)\neq 1\), and \(\gamma= (1- e^{-i\alpha\pi})^{-1} \prod^\infty_{k=-\infty} \lambda^0_k/\lambda_k\), if \(\exp(i\alpha\pi)\neq 1\), with \(\lambda_k^0= 2k+\alpha\).
