The author studies spherical potential operators \[ (K^\alpha f)(x)=\frac{1}{\gamma_{n-1}(\alpha)}\int_{S_{n-1}}\frac{f(\sigma)\,d\sigma}{|x-\sigma|^{n- 1-\alpha}}, \quad x\in S_{n-1}, \quad 0<\Re\alpha <n -1, \] and the corresponding hypersingular integrals \(D^\alpha\) of order \(\alpha\) with \(0\leq \Re\alpha <2\), in Hölder spaces \[ H_k^{\lambda(x)}(S_{n-1}), \;\quad k=0,1,2,\dots, \;0<\lambda(x)<1, \] defined as the space of functions differentiable on the unit sphere \(S_{n-1}\) up to the order \(k\), with the \(k\)-th derivatives satisfying the Hölder condition at a point \(x\in S_{n-1}\) of order \(\lambda(x)\). The differentiability is interpreted in terms of an appropriate spherical differentiation, the \(\frac{k}{2}\)-th power of the Beltrami--Laplace operator may be used in particular. The main result provides the exact characterization of the range of the operator \(K^\alpha\), which proves to be the space of the same nature: \[ K^\alpha[H_k^{\lambda(x)}(S_{n-1})]=H_{k+[\Re\alpha]}^{\lambda(x)+\{\Re\alpha\}}(S_{n-1}) \] under the conditions \(\Re\alpha>0\), \(\inf_{x\in S_{n-1}} \lambda(x)>0\), \(\{\Re\alpha\} +\lambda(x)<1\). The case of purely imaginary order \(\alpha=i\theta\) is also treated: \[ D^{i\theta}[H_k^{\lambda(x)}(S_{n-1})]=H_{k}^{\lambda(x)}(S_{n-1}). \] There is also given a generalization to the case of more general potential operators whose Fourier--Laplace multipliers \(\{k_m\}_{m=0}^\infty\) have the same asymptotics for \(m\to\infty\) as the operator \(K^\alpha\).
