    Let \(K\) be a locally compact hypergroup (in the sense of \textit{R. I. Jewett} [Adv. Math. 18, 1--101 (1975; Zbl 0325.42017)]) and let \(P^1 (K)=\{f \in L^1 (K): f \geq 0, | | f| | _1 =1\}\). A hypergroup \(K\) is said to be \(P\)-amenable if there is a left invariant mean on \(C(P^1 (K))\), the space of all bounded continuous functions on \(P^1 (K)\). The paper contains a characterization of \(P\)-amenability of hypergroup joins (in the sense of \textit{R. C. Vrem} [Pac. J. Math. 111, 483--495 (1984; Zbl 0495.43006)]) and the corresponding central hypergroups.
