The main goal of the author is to provide a unified answer to the two following problems raised by L. A. Shemetkov. 1. Which are the saturated formations \(\mathfrak F\) such that every \(\mathfrak F\)-critical group is either a Shmidt group or a cyclic group of prime order? [see \textit{V. D. Mazurov, Yu. I. Merzlyakov} and \textit{V. A. Churkin}, (eds.), The Kourovka notebook. Unsolved problems in group theory. 9th ed., Novosibirsk: Institute of Mathematics (1984; Zbl 0552.20001), Problem 9.74]. 2. Let \(\mathfrak F\) be a subgroup-closed \(\widehat{\mathfrak S}\)-formation. Is \(\mathfrak F\) saturated? [see \textit{L. A. Shemetkov}, Vopr. Algebry 7, 3-38 (1992; Zbl 0900.20033), Problem 10.22]. Among other interesting general results the author obtains a result (Theorem 1) on subgroup closed formations \(\mathfrak F\) whose \(\mathfrak F\)-critical groups have composition factors of their \(\mathfrak F\)-residual in a class of simple groups \(\mathfrak X\). As a corollary from this general theorem he derives the answers to the questions above.
