Asymptotic behavior of solutions of the Emden-Fowler equation \[ y''+r(t)| y| ^{\lambda-1}y=0, \tag{EF} \] where \(\lambda>0\) and \(r>0\), is studied. Equation (EF) is said to be of the nonlinear limit-circle type if every its solution \(y\) satisfies \(\int^\infty | y(t)| ^{\lambda+1}dt<\infty\) and it is said to be of the nonlinear limit-point type if there is at least one solution \(y\) satisfying \(\int^\infty | y(t)| ^{\lambda+1}dt=\infty\). The so-called strong and weak nonlinear limit-point types of solutions and equations are also introduced. Sufficient conditions (which are in some cases also necessary) guaranteeing these properties are established. The theory is illustrated by examples.
