The authors study the following question: When can the characteristic tilting module over a quasi-hereditary algebra be obtained via induction from some module over an exact Borel subalgebra? For monomial quasi-hereditary algebras with a pure strong exact Borel subalgebra it is shown that the answer to this question is positive if and only if the induction functor followed by the restriction preserves the category of injective modules over the Borel subalgebra. The authors also show that any exact Borel subalgebra of a basic quasi-hereditary serial algebra is right serial and that in this situation the induction described above maps the characteristic tilting module over the Borel subalgebra to that over the algebra.
