Let \(\Delta_p\) denote the \(p\)-Laplacian, i.e., \(\Delta_pu= \text{div}(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)\) if \(1<p<\infty\) and \(\Delta_pu= (\nabla u)(D^2u)(\nabla u)^T\) if \(p=+\infty\). It is well known that the equation \(\Delta_pu= u^q\) \((1<p<+\infty\), \(q>p-1)\) has a unique positive weak solution \(u_p\) in a bounded domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^N\) satisfying th boundary condition \(u(x)\to +\infty\) \((x\to\partial\Omega)\). The authors study the behavior of \(u_p\) when \(p\to+\infty\) and \(p/q\to Q\) where \(1\leq Q\leq +\infty\). It is shown that when \(Q=1\) the solutions \(u_p\) converge uniformly to \(+\infty\) in \(\Omega\), whereas for \(Q=+\infty\) they converge to 1 uniformly in compact subsets of \(\Omega\). If \(Q\in (1,+\infty)\) the solutions converge uniformly in compact subsets of \(\Omega\) to a viscosity solution of the equation \(\max\{-\Delta_\infty u,-|\nabla u|+u^Q\}=0\) with \(u=+\infty\) on \(\partial\Omega\). The proofs are based on an analysis of radial solutions and use comparison arguments within the framework of viscosity solutions.
