    This is the first of two papers in which the authors study harmonic functions with prescribed boundary values in a bounded planar domain \(\Omega\) with a corner with opening angle \(\Phi\). They begin by establishing some properties of one-dimensional Poisson operators and their inverses, i.e., Sonine operators. For integer \(s\geq 0\), they introduce a Fréchet space \(M^s(\Omega)\) continuously embedded in the Sobolev space \(H^s_{\text{loc}}(\Omega)\). It contains the harmonic functions on \(\Omega\) with singularities at the corner \(O\). A trace space \(A[0,\Phi]\) is introduced for \(M^s(\Omega)\) to encapsulate the singularities at the corner of \(\Omega\). The trace operator \(\sigma|_O: M^s(\Omega)\to A[0,\Phi]\) is shown to be continuous for \(s\geq 2\) and surjective with a continuous right inverse for \(s\geq 0\). The latter uses properties of the Poisson operator.
