In 1868, H. Helmholtz, quoted in the reference list, proposed a method of solving some problems in complex function theory. This method isn't presented in the paper, but it was analysed by the author in two other papers, mentioned in the references. Using this method he studies two continuous functionals of derivatives for harmonic functions in \(\mathbb{R}^2\), parametrized by level lines and other boundary data. These functionals appear in the study of motions of icing bodies and in the study of turbine efficiency in an open flow. The papers quoted in the references show clearly the domain of applications of the respective results. At the end of the paper, the author presents some possible generalizations of the quoted method proposed by Helmholtz.
