A bounded linear operator \(T\) on a complex Banach space \(X\) is said to be a Weyl operator if it is a Fredholm operator with index equal to \(0\), and B-Weyl if, for some \(n\), the restriction of \(T\) to the range of \(T^n\) is a Weyl operator. The B-Weyl spectrum of \(T\), denoted by \({\sigma_w}^B(T)\), is the set of all complex numbers \(\lambda\) such that \((\lambda I -T)\) is not a B-Weyl operator, and the operator \(T\) is said to satisfy the generalized Browder's theorem if every accumulation point of the spectrum of \(T\) is contained in the B-Weyl spectrum as well. An operator \(T\) has the single-valued extension property (SVEP) at the complex number \(\lambda_0\) if, for every open disc \(D\) centered at \(\lambda_0\), the only analytic function \(f:D\to H\) that satisfies \((\lambda I-T)f(\lambda)=0\) for all \(\lambda\) in \(D\) is the function \(f\equiv 0\). For instance, \(T\) has the SVEP at every isolated point of its spectrum. An operator is simply said to have the SVEP if it has the SVEP at every complex number. In Theorem 3.2 of this paper, the authors show that for an operator \(T\) to satisfy the generalized Browder's theorem is equivalent to \(T\) having the SVEP at every point not in \({\sigma_w}^B(T)\). In turn, these properties hold for \(T\) if, and only if, they also hold for \(T^*\). Theorem~3.5 provides a spectral picture for an operator that satisfies the generalized Browder's theorem. The quasi-nilpotent part of an operator \(T\) is defined by \(H_0(T):=\{x\in X\,:\,\lim_{n\to\infty}||T^n x||^{1/n}=0\}\). Earlier work has shown that, if \(H_0(\lambda I-T)\) is closed, then \(T\) has the SVEP at \(\lambda\). Here, it is shown (Theorem 3.11) that \(T\) satisfies the generalized Browder's theorem if and only if \(H_0(\lambda I-T)\) is closed for all \(\lambda \in \sigma(T)\backslash{\sigma_w}^B(T)\). Other results in this paper, which belongs to the substantial literature devoted to similar spectral matters, concern the related notions of the generalized Weyl's theorem and Drazin invertibility.
