Finite primitive rank 3 groups have been classified and can be divided into three families: the almost simple groups, the groups of grid type, and the affine groups. In [Innov. Incidence Geom. 2, 129--175 (2005; Zbl 1095.51002)] the author listed all finite proper partial linear spaces admitting an almost simple, primitive rank 3 automorphism group. In the current paper, finite proper partial linear spaces with a primitive rank 3 automorphism group of grid type are completely characterized. It turns out that there are 5 infinite families of proper partial linear spaces and 2 sporadic examples. The author's classification is based on \textit{W. M. Kantor}'s list of finite non-trivial linear spaces admitting a 2-transitive group of autmorphisms [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 38, 66--74 (1985; Zbl 0559.05015)].
