Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity can be thought of as a measure for the complexity of the structure of finitely generated graded modules. Various bounds have been established for the regularity of an ideal \(I\) in a polynomial ring \(R=K[x_1,\dots,x_n]\). In the case of characteristic zero, Galligo and Giusti proved that if \(I\) is generated in degree at most \(d\), then reg\((I)\leq (2d)^{2^{n-2}}\). \textit{G. Caviglia} and \textit{E. Sbarra} [Compos. Math. 141, No. 6, 1365--1373 (2005; Zbl 1100.13020)] proved that this bound holds in any characteristic. Note that an example of \textit{E. W. Mayr} and \textit{A. R. Meyer} [Adv. Math. 46, 305--329 (1982; Zbl 0506.03007)] shows that the double exponential behaviour in \(n\) cannot be avoided. In this paper this bound is extended to the case of modules. The authors give bounds for the regularity of a finitely generated module and its symmetric powers in terms of the degrees of the generators and of their relations.
