The author studies the asymptotic behavior of small, global, complex valued solutions of the Cauchy problem for the equation \(u_t=u_{xx}+{\mathcal N}(u)\), where the admissible class of nonlinearities \({\mathcal N}\) includes \({\mathcal N}(u)=u^p\), \(p=4,5,6,\dots\) and \({\mathcal N}(u)=| u| ^p\), \(p\geq4\), for example. He proves that the solution \(u\) satisfies \(u(x,t)=A(t+1)^{-1/2}e^{-x^2/4(t+1)}+v\), where \(A\) is a constant and the sup-norm of \(v(\cdot,t)\) can be estimated above by \(C(t+1)^{-1}\). The proof is based on a fixed point argument and weighted sup-norm estimates.
