Let \(X\) be a metric space, \(E\) a Banach space, and \(F:X\to {\mathcal P}(E)\) a set-valued function. \textit{V. V. Srivatsa} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 337, No. 2, 609-624 (1993; Zbl 0822.54017)] proved that if \(F\) is weakly upper semicontinuous, then it has a Baire one selector. In the paper under review the author studies the distance from the set \(Sel(F)\) of selectors of \(F\) to the space \({\mathcal B}_1(X,E)\) of Baire one functions from \(X\) to \(E\). He obtains the estimation \(d(Sel(F),{\mathcal B}_1(X,E))\leq 2osc_w^*(F)\), where \(osc_w^*(F)\) is the \(\| \cdot\| \)-\(w\)-semioscillation of \(F\), defined in the paper. Then he proves that if \(F\) is closed-valued and \(osc_w^*(F)=0\), then \(F\) has a Baire one selector. Since the weak upper semicontinuity of \(F\) implies \(osc_w^*(F)=0\), this result strengthens the Srivatsa selection theorem for closed-valued \(F\).
