Casting the Schrödinger equation into the nonlinear Riccati form solved analytically in the first iteration of the quasilinearization method (QLM) allows to the authors to find high precision approximate analytic expressions of the ground state energies and wave functions for arbitrary physical potentials. The nonlinear Riccati form of the Schrödinger equation is treated in the QLM method by approximating the nonlinear terms by a sequence of linear expressions. This method is not perturbative but iterative and based on general features of exact solutions near the boundaries. It gives stable solutions to nonlinear problems without depending on a smallness parameter. This new approach is illustrated more particularly by using the Woods-Saxon potential describing the nucleon-nuclei interactions and the Yukawa potential occuring in atomic physics and in the physics of the quark-gluon plasma. The comparison of the approximate analytic expressions for the binding energies and the wave functions with the exact numerical solutions demonstrates their accuracy in the wide range of the physical parameters.
