In Theorem 1, the author proves that the solution \(\psi_t(x)=\psi(x,t)\) of the time-dependent nonlinear Schrödinger equations with point defect: \[ i\partial\psi_t/\partial t=-\partial^2\psi_t/\partial x^2=\gamma \delta\psi_t+\varepsilon| \psi_t| ^{2\mu}\psi_t \] with initial condition \[ \psi_t(x)| _{t=0}=\psi_0(x)\in L^2(\mathbb R), \] is approximated by means of the Lie evolution operator as follows. For any fixed \(T\geq0\), any \(N>0\) large enough and any \(\beta<1/4\) there exists a positive constant \(C\) which depends on \(\beta\) and on \(\max_{t\in[0,T]}\|\psi_t\|_{L^\infty}\), but not on \(h=T/N\), such that \(\|\psi_T-[X^hY^h]^N\psi_0\|_{L^2}\leq Ch^\beta\), \(h=T/N\), where \(Y^h\) simply acts as \(Y^hw=\exp(-i\varepsilon h| w| ^{2\mu})w\) and \(X^h\) is the evolution operator of the linear Hamiltonian with Dirac's delta. Here \(\gamma\) is the strength of the Dirac delta function, \(\varepsilon\in{\mathbb R}\) is the strength of the nonlinear term and \(\mu>0\). Since the evolution operator \(X^h\) of the exact problem is given by means of an integral operator with an explicit kernel (Lemma 1), such a method simply consists of an iterative procedure where at each step the computation just consists of a numerical integration without any approximation to the Dirac delta function. Thus the numerical scheme developed here is much less computationally expensive and more robust than previous ones. Two numerical experiments are given. The first one deals with the motion of solitons and the effect of pointwise perturbation. The second one is concerned with the appearance of blow-up phenomena for increasing self-focussing nonlinearity and hyper-critical nonlinear power \(\mu\) (\(\mu>2)\).
