    For a Banach space \(X\) and \(f:X\to \mathbb R\cup\{+\infty\},\) the infimal convolution \(\| \cdot\| ^{2}\,\square\, f\) is defined by \((\| \cdot\| ^2\,\square\, f)(x)= \inf\{\| x-z\| ^{2}+f(z) : z\in X\}. \) The author proves that if \(X\) is reflexive with Kadec-Klee norm and \(f\) is Lipschitz or a proper, bounded below and lower semi-continuous function, then the set of all \(x\in X\) for which there exists \(z\in X\) such that \((\| \cdot\| ^{2}\,\square\, f)(x)= \| x-z\| ^2+f(z) \) contains a set of \(G_\delta\)-type dense in \(X.\) Taking \(f\) to be the indicator function of a nonempty closed set \(K\subset X,\) one obtains a result of \textit{Ka-Sing Lau} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 27, 791--795 (1978; Zbl 0398.41026)]. Note that the reviewer [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 243, No. 2, 344--356 (2000; Zbl 0957.49014)] extended Ka-Sing Lau's result to the perturbed minimization problem \(\min\{\| x-z\| +f(z) : z\in K\}\) for a lower-semi-continuous and bounded below function \(f\).
