The authors give an interesting and new characterization of weak\(^\ast\) denting points \(x^\ast\) of a bounded convex set \(B\) in a dual space \(X^\ast\). This is in terms of the weak\(^\ast\) convergence to \(x^\ast\) of a net of convex combinations in \(B\) implying the convergence of corresponding scalar convex combinations of the norm distance of the vectors to \(x^\ast\) converging to \(0\). Let \(X,Y,Z\) be Banach spaces with \(Y \subset Z\). Let \(X \otimes Y \subset {\mathcal L} \subset {\mathcal L}(X^\ast,Z)\). For a weak\(^\ast\) denting point \(x^\ast\) of the unit ball of \(X^\ast\) and for a unit vector \(y^\ast \in Y^\ast\), as an application of the above result, it is shown that any norm preserving extension of \(x^\ast \otimes y^\ast\) to \({\mathcal L}^\ast\) is of the form \(x^\ast \otimes z^\ast\) where \(z^\ast\) is some norm preserving extension of \(y^\ast\).
