The existence of a dynamo effect in a simplified magnetohydrodynamic model with turbulence is considered, with magnetic Prandtl number approaching either zero or infinity. The magnetic field is interacting with an incompressible fluid of a Kraichnan-Kazantsev model velocity field which incorporates also a viscous cutoff scale. It is possible to formulate and solve and approximate a system of equations in the different scaling ranges. It can be shown that the solution tends to the exact one when the viscous and magnetic diffusive cutoffs approach zero. In this approxomation it is possible to determine analytically the conditions for the existence of a dynamo growth rate. Among other things it is shown that in the large magnetic Prandtl number case the dynamo effect is always present. The estimates based on the present theory are shown to be in good agreement with the results of previous numerical studies on the Kraichnan-Kazantsev dynamo prepared by the numerical computations of \textit{D. Vincenzi} [J. Stat. Phys. 106, No. 5--6, 1073--1091 (2002; Zbl 1030.76064)].
