A new quadrature formula is constructed. This formula is based on integrating the quadratic B-spline quasi-interpolant on a bounded interval. The weights of B-splines for uniform and non-uniform partitions are defined. It is affirmed that the convergence of the quadrature formula for continuous functions is a consequence of Polya-Steklov's theorem. The Peano kernel is used in the investigation. Estimates of the quadrature errors are received for smooth functions in the cases of non-uniform and uniform partitions. It is shown that the quadrature errors of the proposed formula and the Simpson formula are of opposite signs, i.e. these two formulas give lower and upper estimates of the value of the integral. A linear combination of the proposed quadrature formula and the Simpson formula is obtained. This extrapolation gives a decrease of the quadrature errors. Numerical results are received for three functions and integrals. These results shown that quadrature errors for the proposed basic formula are smaller in contrast with the Simpson formula. Also it is shown that the quadrature errors for the extrapolation formula are smaller in contrast with the basic quadrature formula. Thus, the basic quadrature formula and the extrapolation are useful companions to the Simpson rule.
