In the present study the authors use the approximate energies together with the Littlewood-Paley decomposition technique to obtain \(C^\infty\)-well-posedness for weakly hyperbolic operators with a finite order of degeneration. In particular, the author considers operators having the principal part of the form \[ \partial^2_t- \alpha(t) \sum^n_{j,k=1} \partial_{x_j}(\beta_{jk}(t, x)\partial_{x_k}), \] where \(\sum^n_{j,k=1} \beta_{jk}(t, x)\xi_j\xi_k/|\xi|^2\geq \lambda_0> 0\) for all \((t,x,\xi)\in [0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^n\times (\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\})\). To this end, the author replaces usage of Fourier transform by the localization in the phase space given by the dyadic decomposition of Littlewood-Paley.
